Modified Bitumen Systems

Features

At one time, there was only one way of installing a roofing system. Multiple layers of felts were encapsulated in heated asphalt and a gravel surfacing was applied to provide protection from heat aging. Advances in polymer science created opportunities for roof membrane materials to exceed the demands required by modern design. Modified bitumen technology is based on modifying asphalt with SBS, a synthetic rubber. When combined with a suitable reinforcement, surfacings compatible with the application method and fabricated into rolls under recognized quality standards, a two ply modified bitumen has proven to be a good quality application.

Advantages for using the SBS Modified Bitumen Membranes
  • Modified bitumen offers a wide range of application methods; your roof can be applied by heat-welding, hot mopping, cold adhesives, peel and sticks or mechanically fastened to suit almost any situation.
  • Most modified bitumen roofing systems are tested to meet CAN/ULC-S107-M standards
  • A modified bitumen roof system is lightweight.
  • Inspection and repairs are simplified in some cases because the surface membrane is exposed and make obvious punctures through the membrane easy to find.
  • With a SBS modified bitumen roofing system, roofing dollars are purchasing a quality membrane.
MODIFIED BITUMEN SYSTEM WARRANTY

Generally offers a membrane manufacturers labour and material warranty against material defects only for up to TEN (10) years.
